A little room for the words.

Make room
for a good story.

Not every article needs to be another open tab. Some are worth settling into: a new idea, a different point of view, a story that stays with you.

Keep the parts that brought you here. Give them your attention, or a voice, and take them one paragraph at a time.

That newsletter reminder. A repeated introduction. The ending you’d rather save for later. You decide what makes it into your reading.

Open Prepare text to review the extracted paragraphs. Skip a block or bring it back before listening. The original page stays exactly as it was.

There is a quieter way to catch up. Choose one good article, put on your headphones, and give the story a little room.

What is AltVoice Reader?

AltVoice Reader helps you review and listen to text from supported web pages. Read a full article, choose a passage, start from a selected point, or paste a short text. You can leave out paragraphs before listening and follow the text at your own pace. Some page layouts may not extract correctly.

Which browsers does it support?

AltVoice Reader supports Chrome and Firefox on desktop. Choose your browser in the installation section below. Each store link will appear here when its listing is published.

Can I remove paragraphs before listening?

Yes. Choose Prepare text to see the extracted paragraphs in an editor over the page. Skip any block you do not want to hear, restore it if you change your mind, then choose Read selected. Skipped blocks are not submitted for generation, and the original page stays unchanged.

Do I need an account or a microphone?

A free AltVoice account is required to generate audio. Library voices are ready to use without a microphone. Recording a personal reading voice is optional and lives in Account.

Is reading aloud free?

Lite has no minute limit, but hourly text allowances and service limits apply. Middle trial access may be available with a free account; paid plans include Middle access. Pro uses available trial or paid minutes. Check Account in the reader for your current access and remaining allowance.

Does Replay generate and charge for the audio again?

Replay uses saved audio while the reading session remains open. Generate again creates new audio and uses the applicable allowance. Closing the reader or starting a different text clears the session audio. Upcoming sections prepared before you stop can still count toward your allowance.

Does it work offline or with PDFs?

An internet connection is required to generate audio. The extension works on supported HTML pages, not browser internal pages, extension stores or embedded PDF viewers.

How do I use the reader on my pages?

The reader is an extension for Chrome and Firefox that opens on the page you are reading. Install through the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons link below when available. The previews here demonstrate text selection and play prerecorded voice samples; they do not read an arbitrary website or generate audio.

What happens to the text I choose?

The selected reading text is sent to AltVoice’s voice service to generate audio, including upcoming sections prepared for playback. Reading position is stored locally. Preparing and skipping paragraphs in the editor does not itself generate audio.
